It’s so much easier to see the world in black and white. Gray? I don’t know what to do with gray.
Consider me seduced, smooth talker.
Wow. After last night’s work on Ghost, this cut particularly deep.
"James told me there’s an old saying here on Earth…"
Am I doing it right fandom?
YES YOU ARE.
OMG GARRUS’ FACE!!!!!!!!!
i don’t think there’s ever a point when garrus doesn’t get it. of all the friends you’ve made, everyone whose stuck by shepard since the beginning, garrus is the one who says, ‘may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.’ of course, obviously, he’d prefer it if shepard was in neither of those places, if shepard could be alive and kicking and giving hell—cause there’s always a little more hell to give, isn’t there?—but he’s not afraid of the d-word.
death. garrus gets it. in london, when you talk to him for the last time, it’s the culmination of garrus having been there, getting it, and getting it with shepard. no demands, no please, shepard; none of that shit. because garrus knows what he knows and knows what he doesn’t know about what shepard’s going through. he gets it, so he doesn’t have to make any personal demands.
he gets it. he’s always there when things are roughest, toughest, standing beside shepard in silence if that’s what’s needed, with a grim word and a practical outlook that’s just strong enough to temper hope, to turn hope into steel.
except something happens here, something between the head and the heart. maybe it’s the blood loss. (garrus will blame it on that later. someday. with a dry chuckle that twists at the end ‘cause of scar tissue he’ll never let heal.) something happens and instead of being garrus who understands, he’s garrus who needs to be with shepard. you can’t do this solo. i—
it’s not what shepard needs, not exactly. it’s what garrus needs. the shepard to his vakarian. garrus gets it; he’s about to lose his best friend. and this turian who took a missile to the face and laughed about it after—his voice cracks on solo. ‘cause that’s what he’s gonna be after this.
and no amount of getting it can make him want it. that’s love. that’s friendship. that’s the heart and soul of these games and shepard’s story. garrus stands by shepard the whole time—until he can’t. it’s the first, the only chance you’ll ever have to see a turian beg.
and shepard gets it. which is why shepard doesn’t let him finish.
in their own ways, what they’re saying is:
‘love you, shepard.’
‘love you too, garrus.’
OMG STOP I’M SOBBING
